ɫƵ breaks ground on Health Sciences building

ɫƵnical Community College, health care partners and ɫƵ County leaders officially broke ground on an 80,000-square-foot Health Sciences building on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

The groundbreaking marks the next chapter in a journey that started in 2022 when ɫƵ County voters and Commissioners approved a $112.7 million bond referendum that was in part earmarked for this facility.

This new facility will be home to programs including Nursing, Medical Assisting, Surgical Technology, Anesthesia Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Clinical Research, and Occupational Therapy Assistant. It includes:

  • four classrooms and two computer labs
  • 21 allied health labs and simulation settings
  • 1,600 square feet of student collaboration areas
  • 14,000 square feet of academic support areas
  • 1,500 square feet of building support

“We are grateful to the people of ɫƵ County and our health care partners for their support in creating a facility that will serve our students and our community’s health needs,” said ɫƵ President J.B. Buxton. “We are the only community college in the state that serves as a talent pipeline for two tertiary-level hospital systems so a state-of-the art facility is essential to continuing to train the highest quality health care employees possible for this community.”
